Dr. Toko Nguyen PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT, CSCS

Program Director

Toko is the Program Director for IAR Education Systems. He is a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedics and Sports, Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist, and an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Toko graduated in 2000 with a degree in Kinesiology from Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State University) where he was also an All-Conference collegiate football player. He received his Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from Southwest Texas State University in 2003 and his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Texas Women’s University in 2011.

Toko began his career in private practice. He spent 5 years as a partner in 2 outpatient orthopedic clinics. He then joined Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital where he created the hospital systems first Sports and Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Programs. Toko served as the Supervisor of Residency Programs until 2019. In addition to IAR Education Systems, Toko is the founder of the Institute for Athlete Regeneration Sports Medicine, a direct pay private practice located in Houston, Texas.  He has treated a wide range of orthopedic and sports conditions throughout his career. He has a specific focus on advanced treatment of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. Toko has spent the vast majority of his career working with the athletic population including collegiate, amateur, professional, and Olympic athletes. Toko is one of the  most sought out experts in managing the overhead athlete. He continues to collaborate with many well-known performance trainers across the area to better serve many professional athletes.

​Toko has served as a Team Physical Therapist and Rehabilitation Consultant for the Houston Texans and the University of Houston Cougar Baseball Team. He speaks and presents at the local, state, national, and international levels on topics of integrating advanced manual therapy techniques into treatment of the elite athlete.  He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association Orthopedic and Sports Sections, Texas Physical Therapy Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, the Texas Legislative Representative for the APTA Sports Physical Therapy Section, and Founder and Past President of the AAOMPT Sports Special Interest Group. He is the 2014 recipient of the Texas Physical Therapy Association Southeastern District Award for Excellence in Clinical Education. Toko stays active through specific high intensity training exercises as well as running around with his American Bulldog, Tyson, and Boxer, Ally. He spends the majority of his free time with his beautiful wife Linh, and two amazing daughters, Marli and Matea.
